Man Sells 6,000 Dead Poultry Meat To Borno Residents (Photo)

Shocked: Hassan Ebere reveals how he sold 6,000 dead poultry meat to Borno residents

A 33-year-old suspect, Hassan Ebere, has revealed how he sold 6,000 dead poultry to residents of Maiduguri for five years so as to raise money for his livelihood since he lost his father.

Ebere made the revelation while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), after being paraded by the Borno Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), on Wednesday.

“I usually go to the Ngadabul river, behind Borno Radio Television (BRTV) complex, to pick the carcasses of poultry that are thrown away from poultry farms.

“So every week, I pick at least ten or even more than that, then process it and take it to sell to unsuspecting customers.

“My market base are usually Baga fish market, where I sell some of them as bush meat, Monday market, suya joints and some selected restaurants within the metropolis.

“The products usually go for N700, N800. But if it had spent some days, I take them to local beer parlours at the back of Ngomari ward and sell them for N250,”
 he said.

Ebere said he was pushed by the devil to engage in such nefarious activities, and begged for forgiveness.

Speaking, the Borno Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Abdullahi Ibrahim, said that the suspect was arrested, while processing the meat behind BRTV complex on Jan. 2, 2021.

Ibrahim said that the command got intelligence reports about the nefarious acts before swinging into action to apprehend him, adding that the arrest of the suspect had stopped what had been a serious health hazard to the people.

He called on the Ministry of Environment and the the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), to fight the circulation of such unwholesome products, in order to ensure the safety and health of the people.

On his part, State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr Nasiru Mato, said the implication of such an act was in the threat it posed to public safety.

“The carcass of the poultry from the farm must have died from one or two infectious diseases which could easily be transmitted to humans.

“So it can be very disastrous and dangerous to consumers. There are severe penalties on any one found engaging in this type of unwholesome activity.

“We, therefore, urge the general public to make sure, when buying live chicken, they should either slaughter them by themselves or are slaughtered in their presence. They must also make sure that the chicken are certified by a registered vet to ensure public safety”, he said.

Nigerian Leaders Steal Money & Go To Jerusalem, Saudi Arabia To Pray - Kukah

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah has taken a swipe at corrupt officials in Nigeria.

The cleric lambasted them during the wake mass for Archbishop Peter Yariyock Jatau at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral in Kaduna.

His sermon was titled, “A Nation in Search of Its Soul”.

Kukah said citizens usually complain that the country is full of churches and mosques but cannot find the values of religions in their leaders.

“We sin at home by stealing the nation’s resources but we seek repentance and forgiveness in Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem in the guise of lesser or higher pilgrimages,” Arise News quoted him as saying.

The National Peace Committee member likened Nigeria to the proverbial farmer searching for his black goat because darkness is setting in.

“Our nation has become one huge waste land, huge debris of the deceit, lies, treachery, double dealing and duplicity. Nigerian politicians have turned our politics into a huge trojan horse, a hoax, a hall of guile and dissimulation,” he said.

Kukah warned that general frustration was on the rise and evident in domestic violence and inter-communal conflicts.

“A combination of all these has turned us unto a nation at war with itself,” the Bishop stated.

Masquerade Festival Celebration In Akwa Ibom State (Videos, Photos)

Ekpo Masquerade is a cultural play that was originated from the Efik, Ibibio and Annang people in the Cross River/Akwa Ibom land in Southern part of Nigeria.

Ekpo Masquerade is one of the oldest institutions in Africa which was known to maintain law and order in the society.
The name "Ekpo" means ghost. The Ekpo Masquerade was known to originate from spirits of dead ancestors and deities who came back from the spirit world to administer justice to the people in the living world.
As a secret society, membership is strictly by initiation; hence, every aspect of Ekpo is designed to strike awe, fear and caution among women and non initiates.

On 31st December in the year 2020, a community in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state had their Ekpo Masquerade festival.
People from different works of life troop into the community to witness the event.
At about 1a.m, the streets were filled with people anticipating the celebration of the Ekpo Masquerade.
At the junction of the community was a white canopy and under the canopy were group of men drumming different kind of drums and singing traditional songs.

At about 3:30p.m, some Ekpo Masquerades started emerging from a forest which is called the "Evil forest". It's believed that the Ekpo Masquerades live in the Evil forest in which the emerged from.
They were coming out in a single line and looked well organized. Speaking with WonderTV correspondent, a member of the community who happens to be one of the initiates of the Ekpo Masquerade said that this particular masquerade which was the one leading others outside of the forest is called the "Akpan Ekpo" meaning the first born.
He led other masquerades as the all go round the community and entered the houses of their members both dead and alive to pay them homage.
The Akpan Ekpo was seen holding a flat rectangular wood on the left hand and a piece of stick on the right hand. Has he moves, he hits the stick on the rectangular wood.

Trump: Nigerians Hail Goodluck Jonathan (Photos)

Following the drama rocking the US - presidential election, results, Donald Trump's loss and not accepting defeat - Nigerians are hailing ex President, Goodluck Jonathan, for accepting defeat without causing unnecessary drama.

Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo wrote:

For all of Goodluck Jonathan's imperfections, many of which I wrote about in the past, he is a far worthier statesman than Donald Trump.

Trump needs specific post-election presidential carriage lessons that Jonathan can teach.

Most of you said Goodluck Jonathan conceding & congratulating Buhari on the phone, was nothing extraordinary.

Well, a 231-year-old democracy couldn’t do what Jonathan did. Nigeria democracy was only 16 years in 2015. At least this 4th Republic. I’ll leave you to your conscience.

If we are fair, the last time this could have happened, Goodluck Jonathan quietly left, in spite of what his supporters and aides (e.g. Orubebe) did.

That moment must never be minimised. He saved Nigeria from great darkness.

Trump trying to remain in White House as America president shows why we should keep celebrate Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

He left Aso rock in peace so there won’t be bloodshed and also to protect Nigeria democracy.

The #EndSARS spirit lives on. Bigi Apple to all change agents!!

President Trump Pledges Orderly Transition On January 20

Statement by President Donald J. Trump on the Electoral Certification:

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”
